Egypt - $68.53 a week for food
There’s a series of photos showing families around the world with their weekly groceries, and it includes how much those groceries cost in US dollars. I dug this up to post because I’d noted before that the more fresh food in the photo, the lower the price.
The Fat Acceptance movement likes to imply that eating healthy is a mark of privilege. I’ve always found that ridiculous because I’ve spent a significant amount of time in other countries. Only in the first world will people argue that they eat frozen pizza and potato chips because they’re poor. It’s absurd.
When something is important to you, you’ll make it a priority; when something isn’t, you’ll make excuses. I’ll definitely concede that the US food industry needs fixing, but blaming economics for being fat is nothing more than a way of skirting personal responsibility.
